Last year, speculation mounted that WikiLeaks’ source for the “hacked” emails from John Podesta and the DNC was none other than murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich, who was gunned down in July of 2016 for seemingly no reason. Now, however, there is a new twist to this story that has left many stunned…
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange fueled speculation about Rich being the source last year when during an interview in which he mentioned Rich while speaking about how dangerous it is to be a whistleblower. The interview was conducted right after Wikileaks offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to Rich’s murder.
“Whistleblowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often significant risks. There was a 27-year old that works for the DNC who was shot in the back… murdered.. for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington,” Assange said during the interview. When asked if Rich was involved, Assange said, “we have to understand how high the stakes are in the United States and that our sources face serious risks… that’s why they come to us so we can protect their anonymity.”
Fast forward to this week, when Donald Trump Jr. released a direct message chain between him and Wikileaks during the summer of last year. The exchange includes a link to a website that Wikileaks had wanted then-candidate Donald Trump to plug if he were to mention Wikileaks.
Here is the entire chain of messages with @wikileaks (with my whopping 3 responses) which one of the congressional committees has chosen to selectively leak. How ironic! 1/3 pic.twitter.com/SiwTqWtykA

The web address is http://wlsearch.tk/, and at the time, according to WikiLeaks, the link took web users to “The Podesta Emails Part 4 (1193 new emails).” However, the website has since been edited to be something completely different, and it appears to confirm that Rich was the source for the emails Wikileaks published.

The website features a clock as a banner and has only one page, which reads the following in part:
You finally found me! I’m the source of the John Podesta/DNC Email hacks. I’ve been waiting so long for you to join me.
Thanks to Wikileaks and Trump Jr you’ll all soon know why Hillary Clinton and John Podesta had me killed.
As you can see I’m no Russian agent. I was just a proud DNC staffer who believed in the system until I found out Hillary Clinton and the DNC rigged the primaries against my candidate Bernie Sanders. That’s when I decided to take action and release these emails to Wikileaks.
John Podesta was determined to make an example out of me and had me taken care of. Why did you think they didn’t let the FBI examine the DNC servers? Yep, those servers would have lead them straight to me. John couldn’t let that happen.
“Thanks again Wikileaks for upping my reward to solve my murder. I wonder why you’d do that for me? Oh, you are trying to tell the world I was your source. Whoops cat’s outta the bag now,” reads the final paragraph on the page.
It would seem that WikiLeaks edited their website after Donald Jr. published their email chain to reveal that Rich was their source. However, it’s hard to imagine Wikileaks, which survives off of hacking and unauthorized entry into computers, would allow itself to be hacked in such a manner.
